Bring soulful practices into your business
For years I thought producing and working at a fast rate was the standard. That to keep up with the status quo and level up in my career I had to work myself to exhaustion. No one over told me why, I simply observed what was happening around me and did what I thought I should.
Often when I would feel pressured to work long hours, or pick up an abundance of work I rarely said no. "No" was a word I rarely used, and it showed. Health issues came and went, exhaustion was the norm, and I still didn’t realize I was sabotaging myself.
I encountered my first major health scare in 2009 after neglecting myself and my symptoms. I lost the ability to drive, and had to be medicated to prevent seizures. I felt pretty helpless and alone, but I wasn't.
As the universe would have it, my friend asked me to take some yoga classes together. We started a 2 month yoga series at a local studio and my life changed.
The movements in this class were different, and I could feel tension slipping away. We would consciously breathe, chant and lay down for deep relaxation. Throughout those few months, I found myself drifting off to dreamy places, and also crying my eyes out on the mat. It was cathartic, deeply healing and I knew I was where I was suppose to be.
6 years passed - I was in a new state, living a new life and I needed something more. I became a yoga teacher to deepen my knowledge, and continue the healing process. As the focus of my life shifted and I became an entrepreneur I realized how critical my practices are. They helped me through high levels of stress, burnout, even health issues, and a pandemic.
I began coaching others on how to live a more present, conscious life, and perhaps avoid stress and health issues. Then I launched a separate coaching program for entrepreneurs, that focuses on branding and marketing. I felt a calling and responsibility to help others out of bad situations, or show them how to avoid them. My calling was clear.
When I start with a new client, I ask if they have tools to get them through life's difficulties? Do they factor in down time and have activities that evoke calm? Do they understand healthy boundaries and how critical they are to your mental health? What does their day look like? How do they want to feel? These are all questions we rarely ask ourself when we are operating in autopilot on the hamster wheel of life. I educate and teach an abundance of tools that are retainable, and functional.
Some of the most simple advice I give to clients so they stay focused, present, and healthy is:
Create healthy boundaries
Create moments of calm throughout the day
Capitalize on your energy and learn when to work, and when to rest
Learn how to say No
Move your body
Establish some breathing practices
Eat healthy meals
